Important information on our revised 2020 Winter Sports Season

The WSS Sports Association Executive (Principals & Sport Waikato) met on Wednesday to confirm the season start and finish dates for all winter sports codes. See below.
With the cancellation of all NZSS sanctioned tournaments in Winter Tournament week and the cancellation of two of our annual sports exchanges, the Super 8 schools made a decision to use Winter Tournament week to play all Super 8 competitions previously scheduled to run through Terms 2 and 3. In addition to the annual fixtures, it was decided to include the junior premier teams in the codes of basketball, hockey, football and rugby in their own competition. These senior and junior Super 8 tournaments will be the pinnacle of our boys' winter sports season. See the attached document for the host schools and dates of these new tournaments. HBHS will be hosting the Junior Super 8 Basketball tournament.
The Rugby 1st XV and 2nd XV teams will play their annual, weekly, round-robin competition commencing Week 1 Term 3. See below for their draw and dates.
The Super 8 Clay Target competition format is still to be confirmed. It will either be a postal shoot or a stand-alone event that ties in with the NISS competition in the September holidays. We are waiting for a confirmed NISS date.
More details will come out soon around budgets and how to prepare for these tournaments.
The Tauranga Boys' College exchange has been moved from the end of term 2 to Thursday 20th August (Term 3 Week 5). The same 12 fixtures will be played as in 2019. HBHS is the host school this year. This will allow all our junior and senior premier teams some quality opposition leading into the various Super 8 competitions a fortnight later, as well as being the 1st XV and 2nd XV rugby round to play Tauranga. See below for the confirmed fixtures scheduled.
With the government announcement on Monday 8th June, we will know when we are going to Alert Level 1. An update on what that means for sport here at HBHS will come out early next week.
