Vaccination Update for Sport at HBHS

Dear Parents and Caregivers

I am writing to remind you that all students selected in a sports team representing Hamilton Boys’ High School against other schools/clubs, are required to be double vaccinated to play. This includes all coaches, managers, officials as well as the players themselves.

On 3.12.2021, the board of School Sport NZ confirmed sanctioned events in Term 1 2022 (including the term 1 holidays) will be restricted to fully vaccinated participants, aged 12 and over, only. On 31.1.2022, this mandate was extended to include ALL events on the School Sport NZ sanctioned calendar for 2022, which is available on the School Sport NZ website. The mandate will be reviewed against all further applicable Government updates, particularly those issued by Sport New Zealand and the Ministry of Education.

The Waikato Secondary Schools’ Sports Association Executive (comprising school Principals) have agreed to apply the School Sport NZ mandate to all Waikato Secondary Schools’ competitions in 2022. That means all students, coaches, managers and officials must be fully vaccinated to participate in these events.
We are presently working through a system to collect individual student vaccination status to allow them to participate in school sports teams. This will be forwarded to you in the near future.

Over the past three weeks, considerable consultation has taken place to determine how sport can commence safely at Hamilton Boys’ High School under the Covid Protection Framework Red setting.

We are operating in challenging times and your support is greatly appreciated as we navigate through the processes around delivering sport safely to all participants, including your son, under the CPF Red setting.
Ngaa mihi
Nigel Hotham
