HBHS win National Wrestling Title

Despite drastically reduced sporting numbers due to COVID-19 and some critical injuries and absences, reigning National Champions HBHS were able to field a small team at the NZSS National Championships for Olympic Freestyle Wrestling.

The team receive coaching from New Zealand Olympic coach Pete Pouri-Lane, and HBHS Old Boy Rickson Hill at the Hamilton Hawks Wrestling club. Year 11 Abas Sayed won the trophy for the best wrestler of the tournament who unfortunately missed out on a podium finish. Year 11 Ghulam Safdar Ali won a bronze medal after facing two National team members including the current National champion. In his debut tournament Year 9 Bailey Dent claimed a silver medal, and team Captain Year 11 Bhavraj Waraich was crowned National Champion for New Zealand Schools after going undefeated for the tournament. It was noted that our boys consistently demonstrated the values of a team that has produced multiple National titles.
